Core Value
“A Place Where History, Culture, Crafts, Aesthetic, Bioscape and Ecology Co-Share and Co-Prosper”
Legacy/The Black Gold/The Span of Time
“Ikken, Where Ancient Art Meets Life Aesthetics in Jingtong” cultural space used to be the Pingxi Guesthouse, erected by Taiyang Mining Company in 14th year of the Showa Era (1939), and completed a year later. The architecture in the complex is a large, academy-inspired building, a rarity in Taiwan. It’s erected gracefully as a standalone building in a lush, forested space sized at over 600 pings, bearing witness to the glorious past of the black gold era.
Rebirth/Heaven and Earth in Time Eternal, Cultural Rebuilding
Taiwan’s coal mining industry experienced boom and bust over the course of a century: it enjoyed its prime during the Japanese colonial era. Those golden years are no more; yet the memory of the glorious days is lovingly buried in the lush quietness of the mountains and silent mining pits. Coals and diamonds belong to the same carbon family, and this once-beautiful ancient estate needed only to rearrange the sequence of the atoms, breathe the substance and spirit of the cultural gem into a holistic, mind-and-body-and-soul experience, to elevate the rarefication process of the black gold era into a timeless heirloom.
Innovation/Enduring Grace of an Ancient Manor, Its Legacy Everlasting
As we take a deep dive into Jingtong’s history, we find ourselves inspired to revitalize this once-glorious ancient estate with a cultural touch. Our vision is defined by an Eastern aesthetic to internalize the precepts of altruism. Aesthetic teaching of the ancients is thus fulfilled in the process. The spirit of the literati of both Tang and Song dynasties lives on in the artifacts that serve as the vessel of the Way, that harmony and co-prosperity can be embraced in nature.
We look forward to redefining – and rediscovering – the life aesthetic with every one of you.
Dust off the History, and Make Antique Art an Organic Part of Our Life
It’s about returning to our roots.
A deep affection for the rare and beautiful.
A profound resonance with the enduring and immemorial
A discourse between the revived antique crafts and the contemporaries.
One of a kind, forever as resplendent as this ancient estate.
